Quick X Preview for macOS

Effective date: July 22, 2026

Quick X Preview does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal data. This app was built with privacy as a default, not an option.

Data Collection

We do not collect any data. Specifically, Quick X Preview does not collect:

  • Personal information (name, email, contact info)
  • Location data
  • Usage data or analytics
  • Diagnostics or crash logs sent to us or any third party
  • Advertising or tracking identifiers
  • Browsing or search history
  • Financial or payment information

How the App Works

Quick X Preview is a Quick Look extension for macOS. When you press Space (or Cmd+Y) on a folder or archive in Finder, macOS hands the extension that single file or folder to render a preview. The extension reads only what you selected, generates the preview locally on your Mac, and discards it when the preview closes.

The app has no network access entitlement and makes no network requests. Nothing you preview, file names, contents, thumbnails, or metadata, ever leaves your device.

Local Storage

The app stores your preferences (folder depth limit, item limit, preview layout, icon size, sort order, column visibility, launch-at-login setting) locally on your Mac using UserDefaults, in an app group shared only between the main app and its two Quick Look extensions. This data is never transmitted anywhere and is deleted if you uninstall the app.

The Archive Preview extension also maintains a local disk cache of extracted archive listings to speed up repeat previews. This cache lives entirely on your Mac and can be cleared at any time from Preferences → Archives → Clear Cache Now.

Permissions

  • Sandboxed app. Quick X Preview runs inside Apple's App Sandbox and does not request Full Disk Access.
  • File access is limited to the specific folder or archive you select for preview, plus files you explicitly choose via an Open dialog.
  • No camera, microphone, contacts, calendar, photos, or location access is requested or used.

Third-Party Services

Quick X Preview does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDK. No data is shared with any third party because no data is collected in the first place.

The app uses open-source libraries (unarr, ZIPFoundation, LZMA SDK) for local archive decoding only. These libraries run entirely on-device and do not communicate over the network. License information is available in the app under Preferences → Licenses.

Children's Privacy

Quick X Preview does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13, because it does not collect data from anyone.
