Recento Stats icon: a gauge with a needle

Recento Stats · Part of Recento Pro

Your Mac's vitals, one click away in the menu bar

Recento Stats is a Mac system monitor for the menu bar. Check free disk space, live power, battery health and the apps using the most energy without opening anything.

macOS 14 or later · Apple Silicon & Intel

  • Free disk space at a glance
  • Live power in and out
  • Battery health in one glance
  • The apps using the most energy

"Your disk is almost full." "Battery draining fast." By the time macOS tells you, it's already a problem, and finding the real numbers means opening System Settings, Activity Monitor and About This Mac one after another.

Recento Stats puts them in one menu. Click its icon and you see how much disk space is free, how many watts are coming in from the charger and going out to the Mac, the battery's health, cycles and temperature, and which apps are using the most energy right now. If a process is running away with the CPU, you can quit it from the same list.

What Recento Stats does

Free disk space at a glance

The startup disk's name, how much is free out of the total, and a usage bar sit at the top of the menu. The free figure is the same one Finder reports, so the numbers agree.

Live power in and out

See the watts coming from the power adapter, the watts the Mac itself is drawing, and whether the battery is charging or discharging and at what rate. Time to full or time remaining, current and voltage are listed too.

Battery health in one glance

A battery glyph shows the charge level with the percentage drawn inside it, plus the charging state and time estimate underneath. Below that: maximum capacity against design capacity, health, cycle count and temperature.

The apps using the most energy

The Using Energy list shows which apps are costing you the most battery right now, with their icons. It is the quickest way to find what's draining a MacBook.

Top processes, and quit one from the list

Switch to Top Processes to see what's using the most CPU. Hover over a row and a close button appears. Apps are asked to quit politely, so they can offer to save your work first.

Separate battery and disk icons

Keep one combined icon, or add a battery icon that shows the charge level and a disk icon that shows free space in its tooltip. Each one opens its own focused menu.

Pick the icon you like

The combined icon can be a chart, bars, a gauge, a chip or a Mac, so it fits next to everything else in your menu bar.

Live while it's open, idle while it's closed

The menu updates every second while you're looking at it, so plugging in a charger shows up straight away. With every menu closed it reads nothing at all.

Works over full-screen apps

The menu opens over full-screen apps like any system menu. You can also assign a keyboard shortcut to open Recento Stats from the menu itself.

How it works

  1. 1Open the Recento Pro Hub and make sure Recento Stats is switched on. Its icon appears in the menu bar.
  2. 2Click the icon to see disk, power and battery details.
  3. 3Switch between Using Energy and Top Processes to find what's busy.
  4. 4Optional: in the Recento Stats window, pick an icon or add separate battery and disk icons.

Who it's for

  • MacBook owners who want to know why the battery is draining and how healthy it is.
  • Developers and creators who keep an eye on disk space and runaway processes during builds and exports.
  • Anyone testing chargers and cables who wants to see the real watts going in.
  • People who like a tidy menu bar but still want the key numbers one click away.

Privacy and permissions

Recento Stats asks for no permissions. It reads disk space, battery and power figures from macOS, and the process list from the same source Activity Monitor uses. Nothing it shows leaves your Mac, and it reads nothing while its menus are closed.

Requirements

  • macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on Apple silicon or Intel.
  • Disk space works on every Mac.
  • Power, battery and the energy and process lists need Recento Battery switched on in Recento Pro. With Recento Battery off, the menu shows disk space and a button to turn it on.
  • Built for MacBooks: the power and battery figures come from the Mac's battery.
  • Some power figures, like live adapter watts, depend on what your Mac reports. A row your Mac doesn't report is left out rather than shown as zero.

Questions

How do I see free disk space in the Mac menu bar?

Switch on Recento Stats in Recento Pro and click its menu bar icon. The startup disk's free space, total size and a usage bar are at the top. You can also add a separate disk icon that shows free space when you hover over it.

How can I tell how many watts my charger is delivering?

Plug in and open the Recento Stats menu. The Power section shows the watts coming from the power adapter, the watts the Mac is using and the watts going into the battery. If your Mac doesn't report live adapter watts, the charger's rated wattage is shown instead.

How do I find which app is draining my battery?

Open the menu and look at Using Energy. It lists the apps costing the most energy right now. The figures need a moment to measure the first time you open it.

Can I quit a process from Recento Stats?

Yes. Hover over a row in Top Processes or Using Energy and click the close button. Apps get a normal quit request so they can save first. System processes and other users' processes can't be quit from the list.

Does Recento Stats show CPU and memory graphs?

No. It focuses on disk space, power, battery and the busiest apps and processes. Top Processes ranks processes by CPU use, but there are no history graphs.

Does it work on a Mac mini, iMac or Mac Studio?

Recento Stats is built for MacBooks. Disk space works on any Mac, but the power and battery figures come from the Mac's battery, so a desktop Mac has little to show there.

Is Recento Stats free?

Yes, every part of it is in the free version of Recento Pro.

Will it slow down my Mac?

It reads nothing while its menus are closed. While a menu is open it refreshes once a second, and stops again as soon as you close it.
