Mac utility tools for the small things that slow you down

Seven native tools in one window: give any app a key, use Windows editing keys, keep the Mac awake, clean the keyboard, eject installers, leave weak Wi-Fi and fold the screen as the lid closes.

macOS 14 or later · Apple Silicon & Intel

  • Shortcuts: a key of its own for any app
  • Copy Paste: Windows editing keys on a Mac
  • Stay Awake: no more jobs cut off by sleep
  • Keyboard Lock: wipe the keys without typing

Every Mac collects small annoyances. The Mac falls asleep halfway through a long build. Installer disk images pile up on the desktop. The Wi-Fi hangs on to a weak network when a better one is right there. Each fix usually means another app, another menu bar icon and another update to keep track of.

Recento Utilities puts seven of those Mac utility tools in one place inside Recento Pro. Each tool has its own switch and its own page, so you turn on only what you need. They are native macOS tools, built to stay out of the way until they have something to do.

What Recento Utilities does

Shortcuts: a key of its own for any app

Press one key combination and an app opens, or comes to the front if it is already running. It works for files, folders and web links too, and Recento suggests a letter from the app's name so adding one takes a click. Read more about Shortcuts.

Copy Paste: Windows editing keys on a Mac

Make Control C copy, Control V paste and Control X cut, the way they do on Windows. Command keys keep working everywhere else, and terminals and virtual machines are left alone by default. Read more about Copy Paste.

Stay Awake: no more jobs cut off by sleep

Keep the Mac awake for 15 minutes up to 8 hours, or with no limit, while a build, render, upload or long download runs. Bag Mode in the paid version keeps it awake with the lid closed and watches the CPU and GPU temperature. Read more about Stay Awake.

Keyboard Lock: wipe the keys without typing

Lock the keyboard so you can clean it without typing into whatever is open. A full-screen overlay confirms the lock, the mouse keeps working, and one click unlocks. Read more about Keyboard Lock.

Auto Eject: installers tidy themselves away

Recento ejects an installer disk image once its app is installed, and can offer to install a downloaded app for you and then eject it. It can also stop the drives you care about from being ejected. Read more about Auto Eject.

Better Wi-Fi: leave a weak network on its own

When the signal gets weak and a stronger network is in range, Recento moves you to it. It can also remind you to plug in the charger when you are on battery at a network you saved as Home or Office. Read more about Better Wi-Fi.

Lid Fold: the screen folds as the lid closes

As you close the lid, the screen frosts, dims or folds away, following the real hinge angle. Opening the lid plays it in reverse and can end on a soft click. Read more about Lid Fold.

One window, one switch per tool

All seven tools live in one Recento Utilities window with a sidebar. Each tool also has its own tile in the Recento Pro launcher, so you can jump straight to it.

How it works

  1. 1Download Recento Pro and open the launcher (the Hub).
  2. 2Open Recento Utilities, or click any tool's own tile.
  3. 3Pick a tool in the sidebar and turn it on. Copy Paste and Lid Fold start off. You choose to turn them on.
  4. 4Adjust its settings on the same page. Changes apply right away.
  5. 5Turn a tool off at any time. Nothing it did is left behind.

Who it's for

  • Developers and creators: keep the Mac awake through long builds, renders and AI agent runs.
  • People coming from Windows: use Control C and Control V without relearning every shortcut.
  • Keyboard-first users: open any app, folder or link from a single key combination.
  • Laptop users on the move: leave weak Wi-Fi automatically and get a charger reminder at home or the office.
  • Anyone who installs apps often: stop installer disk images from cluttering the desktop.

Privacy and permissions

Each tool asks only for what it needs, and only when you turn it on:

  • Accessibility: Copy Paste (to change the keys you press), Keyboard Lock (to hold back keystrokes), and two optional parts of Shortcuts (the letters overlay and moving between an app's windows). Plain app shortcuts need no permission.
  • Location Services: Better Wi-Fi, because macOS hides Wi-Fi network names without it. Recento uses it only to see nearby networks and never stores your location.
  • Notifications: Stay Awake, Auto Eject and Better Wi-Fi use them to tell you what they did.
  • Screen Recording: only the Fold styles of Lid Fold, to take a picture of the screen to fold. The Frost style needs nothing.
  • Downloads folder access: only if you turn on Auto Eject's Install Downloaded Apps.
  • Administrator password: only Stay Awake's Bag Mode, once per session.

Everything these tools do happens on your Mac. None of them sends your keystrokes, files or screen anywhere.

Requirements

  • macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
  • Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
  • Lid Fold needs a Mac with a lid angle sensor (MacBook Air M2 and later and most 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models).
  • Bag Mode works best on Macs with readable CPU or GPU temperature sensors. Recento tells you if your Mac has none.

Questions

What is Recento Utilities?

Recento Utilities is one of the thirteen apps inside Recento Pro. It holds seven small Mac tools: Shortcuts, Copy Paste, Stay Awake, Keyboard Lock, Auto Eject, Better Wi-Fi and Lid Fold. Each one has its own switch and settings.

Are the utilities free?

Most of them are free with every feature: Shortcuts, Copy Paste, Keyboard Lock, Better Wi-Fi and Lid Fold. Stay Awake is free for sessions up to 60 minutes, and Bag Mode needs Recento Pro. Auto Eject is free, with one protected drive and the last 20 activity entries. Recento Pro removes those limits.

Can I turn off the tools I don't use?

Yes. Every tool has its own switch, and a tool that is off does no work in the background. Copy Paste and Lid Fold start off, because they change how your Mac behaves.

How do I keep my Mac awake with the lid closed?

Use Stay Awake's Bag Mode, part of Recento Pro. It asks for your administrator password once per session, keeps the Mac awake with the lid shut, and puts it to sleep if the CPU or GPU gets too hot.

Do I need to give Recento Accessibility access?

Only for the tools that change or hold back keystrokes: Copy Paste, Keyboard Lock, and two optional parts of Shortcuts. Everything else works without it, and you can grant it later from System Settings.

Does Recento Utilities work on Intel Macs?

Yes. Recento Pro is universal and runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs with macOS 14 or later. Lid Fold needs a lid angle sensor, which older and Intel MacBooks may not have.

Is this on the Mac App Store?

No. Recento Pro is downloaded from 1dot.ai, notarized by Apple, and updates itself from inside the app.
